May / June 2009
Dear Neuqua Community,
It is hard to believe that the 2008-09 school year is almost over! This year has been filled with many PTSA projects and activities, all of which we could not have accomplished without the help of you, our many volunteers, and the support of the entire NVHS staff. We are grateful for everyone’s contribution of time, energy and passion for kids! We extend special thanks to our principal, Bob McBride, and the entire administrative staff for their outstanding support and collaboration this past year.
The PTSA is wrapping up last minute projects and activities for the school year. The final PTSA Market Day pick-up date is June 1. Please be sure to stop by and pick up your orders as we are not able keep them over the summer. Many thanks go to all of our Market Day volunteers, including our many student helpers from the Interact Group. Thank you for your time and commitment! (Please click on Market Day for 2009-10 pick-up dates.) Big thanks go out to all involved in the Senior Yard Signs distribution! It is a time-honored tradition and a wonderful opportunity to recognize our NVHS graduates who have worked hard to reach this point in their lives. We wish the Class of 2009 and their families all the best for the future!
At our recent PTSA meeting, we were joined by students who participated in the Youth Empowerment Seminar (YES!) designed to teach students techniques to reduce stress, increase mental clarity, improve study skills and test scores, manage emotions, as well as develop leadership skills. The NVHS PTSA supported this program through Student Enrichment funds. Listening to the students share their stories and talk about the difference the seminar has made in their lives touched everyone in attendance. Advocating for and impacting every student is at the core of the PTA mission, and it’s been at the center of NVHS PTSA activities this past year. We are indebted to Bob McBride for suggesting this program, and to Bill Herman from the International Association of Human Values for successfully leading our students in this pilot program, which Mr. McBride is looking to expand next school year.
At the May meeting, the membership elected the 2009-10 executive officers, Jean Donovan—President, Karen Bilgri—Vice President, Lisa Ohlhausen—Secretary, and Deb Schneider—Treasurer. We wish them well for the upcoming school year. Please be sure to check this Web site over the summer for updates, membership and volunteer information. On a personal note, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve the Neuqua community as PTSA president this past school year. My heart-felt thanks go out to the entire PTSA Executive Board and the many PTSA volunteers in our community. Thank you for all your time and dedication. Our community would not be what it is without all of you.
Have a joyful, safe and relaxing summer! On behalf of the Neuqua Valley PTSA,
Sincerely, Dagmar Kauffman PTSA President
