The NVHS PTSA Reflections Committee for 2011-2012 Presents
"Diversity Means..."

About Reflections Program:

Designed to enhance rather than replace a quality arts education, the PTA® Reflections ProgramSM provides opportunities for students to express themselves and to receive positive recognition for their artistic efforts.

PTA believes all children deserve a quality arts education and encourages students to pursue artistic expression through participation in its annual arts Reflections Program. The program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition.

Students in preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to create and submit works of art in six areas:

DANCE CHOREOGRAPHY,
FILM PRODUCTION,
LITERATURE,
MUSICAL COMPOSITION,
PHOTOGRAPHY,
VISUAL ARTS (which includes art forms such as drawing, painting, print making, and collage).

For more than 40 years, the program has encouraged millions of students across the nation and in American schools overseas to create works of art.

Welcome to 2011-2012 Reflections Program:

Studies have shown that arts education can enhance a child's personal, social, and intellectual development. With that being said, NVHS PTSA welcomes all the Neaqua students to the Reflections Program! Reflections is an extracurricular arts competition sponsored by the National PTA and is designed to encourage students nationwide to creatively express themselves through dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and visual arts. Each year Neuqua Valley High School is greatly represented in the competition. Don't miss out! Please encourage your child to enter!

Theme:
The theme, which encourages students to think outside the box, is "Diversity Means..." Only new pieces of art directly related to, and expressive of, this year's theme are acceptable. Unless the work clearly expresses or relates to the theme, it must be used in a title or subtitle.

Grade Division:

All students from grades 9 – 12 to can participate

Developmentally Challenged Students:

The entries from students with cognitive disabilities will be placed in the grade division which best reflects the student's developmental age for each category.

Number of Entries Per Student
Students may enter as many works of art in as many categories as they wish.

Rules
All entries must follow both the General Rules and the Comprehensive Rules.

Official Student Entry Form
The Official Student Entry Form can be downloaded
here.

Judging
All entries will be judged on expression of the theme, originality, creativity, and artistic merit. Three to five pieces of work from each category and grade division will be chosen to represent NVHS at the local Indian Prairie Parent's Council level of the competition. A student's work could then be judged to continue on the competition trail to Northern Illinois District 36, then to the State of Illinois, and finally to the National competition in Washington DC.

Important Note
Each student is encouraged to make and keep a copy of the submitted work. Some projects may not be returned safely, and work will not be returned by the National PTA.

Deadline Date:
All entries must be received in the main office of either campus by 3:00 PM on Monday, October 10, 2011.
